The Cat Had To Go

In one CIA operation referenced in this work, a listening device was placed in the home of a target overseas. The device was placed in a desk in the target’s office, and it threw off enough heat to be noticeable… by the target’s housecat. The cat began to consistently lay on the warm spot above where the listening device was hidden, and the target started to wonder why it always preferred that spot. An operative later describing the mission was clear in the implications: “the cat had to go.” It was neutralized.
